Day Ten: rain, rain, go away!

We have hit three solid days of insane and intense storms in Merida! We got to a shelter in place this evening in Walmart... But back to the start of the day, I'll end with the rain!

Dos Días en Habla!

We started out the day at 7:45 and will be continuing to do this Monday to Wednesday every week. We have Spanish class three times a week. Tomorrow we are super excited for cooking class as well.

Today we uber'd to and from class for under two dollars each way, round trip was 4 dollars with tip! It's about 1.3 miles, which is totally doable in the afternoon- but also just unbearable at times with a bookbag and a nagging tween. I was just so tired today too.

When we got back we ate left overs for lunch and just wanted some TV. After that and a nap we headed out to Centro. We didn't do much exploring, but the taxi over was pretty remarkable and we had a destination in mind!

Our friend just met us in our prior location. Cynthia told me all about this shop with great hand crafted gifts and we knew we had to stop there. Once we found what we wanted we headed out to sit in the park and have some ice cream. Gia took a chance with the pigeons but it seriously reminded me of NYC.

After that we hopped in an Uber again to go across town to a Walmart. it looks pretty much the same as the ones in the US. They have a ton here as well. I usually don't shop in them, but I decided sharing a bed with Gia is getting annoying, so I picked up a comfy air mattress and some things for the house.

Seriously getting a feel for the whole "tiny home living" and I'd have to say... there are ways to enhance the space. We got back after a long shop... because we had to actually seek shelter in Walmart as the sky opened up and poured a ton of water all over the city.

Once it settled a bit we called for an Uber back. My bags were soaking wet, the taxi driver called me but Yo No Habla Español and well- that was interesting! But I was able to text him in Spanish and we got safely in just as my shopping bag with all the great gifts in it came to a complete tear apart mess.

Gia was thinking fast and helped me with the mess and we were on our way back to the house... except we had no air. Carolina came running over, soaked by the air and with her she brought knives, bowls, a new sheet set and asked if I was ok with the space. I continued to assure her we are fine and things are great. She was able to fix the air and we laughed a bit about the rain.

Tomorrow she's going to send me a place to get a hammock. I think we like them for naps and to chill on. We also have several hooks in our room for them!

When I get home, I think I'd like to put the one we will bug for here in Gias room! It's a safe place that provides some cocoon comfort for a child on the spectrum. Just a way to calm down and feel all wrapped up... and she tends to take naps in them! Gia back to napping, it's only been 8 years of fighting about how they really are the coolest thing to do when you need a break!

Gia doesn't talk much about what she likes. I'm really not too sure. But I did tell her to go to Walmart and pick out a journal just for Mexico. She looked for a while and found one she liked.

Find the drawing from today that she did!

As I reflect on day 10, I remind myself what I love doing and how I can continue to pour myself back into the world.

As many of you know, I love camping, I love building each other up and I really enjoy nature and teaching people how to lean into their fears and go beyond their comfort zones.

I'm planning a three day hiking & camping retreat for women this fall! More details coming soon.
