Day 981: I Mean Just Day Eleven

It's going by quickly for us. For family, loved ones and friends... we know you are counting down the days until our return and missing us a ton. Or you aren't! Either way, we are out here exploring the city and really settling in.

Today was the completion of week one! I'm finally getting my AEIOU down in Spanish... maybe! And my H, J, G- possibly some of the irregular verbs... I have tons of studying to get done!

It would be so much easier if the immersion program was open full time, but we have two more weeks of this before we are able to be in the full swing of things for a week! I can't imagine what that will look like. My brain feels tired and I am not sure I am any good at speaking English or Spanish I just keep getting tongue twisted.

I did learn that I will be gifted free classes on-line upon my arrival home to keep things going forward a bit for us! Moving mountains takes a village! I'm also seeking out coffee dates to help me practice! PS- I use the term "date" loosely. I'm spoken for... Today was another great day! I'm reading a children's book in Spanish!

While at the immersion program, we got to start learning some of the authentic Mexican recipes! We got right down to cooking today, empanadas con queso. We had a great time with the staff at HABLA and shared a great meal together. They told Gia she was a natural chef, Girl got skills in the kitchen! We can't wait to buy our very own tortilla press to make everything fresh when we get home! Gia and I have always had a love for ethnic foods from all over the world, Mexican being some of our favorite types of food!

After class we went back for another rest. I can get used to siesta fiesta everyday! After that we headed out to the center of town. This was a different experience. The town square was filled with venders and shops that lined the sides of the street. We happened to head out right before another huge storm and got stuck in it again. We are getting good at finding places to seek shelter. This time we found shelter with many people under a covered side walk in the center of town. We took this as a time to just people watch, cloud watch and traffic watch. It was all very fascinating with it's very own magical moments! Gia got a lolly pop from a local vender, we took pictures to see how tall she was (spoiler alert- I'm shorter), we got to see the city square empty and Gia got some great shots of her momma... and negotiated the price of her new book bag purse that she picked out on her own! She's used to me saying no, but for once she really got to make her own decisions! After that we walked around, got an Uber and went back to the Air BNB. I made some calls to Bill and Erica then did some things to prepare for some fun lined up for tomorrow!
